What is the treatment for?
To treat a suitable area of localised fat that persists despite diet and exercise. It is not a treatment for overall excess weight or for loose skin alone.
Who is it for?
For someone close to their usual weight, with a localised bulge that can be pinched and is accessible to the handpiece. A fold that is too thin, or deep fat lying beneath the muscle, does not suit it.
Certain medical contraindications exist, for example cold intolerance, a hernia in the area or pregnancy. They are checked in consultation.
Areas concerned
Treatment areas are selected after examination. The lower abdomen is included in the price list, and the quote depends on the number of handpieces required.
How a session generally unfolds
After examination and marking of the area, the skin is protected, then the handpiece is positioned. The session lasts the length of the treatment cycle. A sensation of intense cold then numbness is usual, sometimes with a pulling feeling at the start.
Once the handpiece is removed, the area may be massaged depending on the protocol. It is then red, cold and sometimes firm, which is transient. Resuming activities is generally possible straight afterwards.
What kind of result
A gradual reduction of the localised volume may be observed. A delay of around six to twelve weeks is often mentioned for judging the effect, but it varies. The result is neither immediate nor guaranteed, and its extent cannot be quantified in advance. An additional session may be discussed after evaluation.
How it changes over time
Changes are generally judged after several weeks, while the treated fat cells are gradually eliminated. Later weight gain can increase the size of the remaining fat cells, hence the value of a stable lifestyle.
Possible after-effects
Redness, tenderness, numbness, bruising, temporary firmness. Numbness or sensitivity can last from a few days to a few weeks. Rarer effects exist and are explained before the procedure.
General precautions
A stable lifestyle helps preserve the result. Report any unusual pain or persistent skin disorder. Post-session instructions (massage, activity, clothing) are given at the practice.
Questions
How many handpieces are needed?
It depends on the area and its extent. The number is decided in consultation, then reflected in the quote.
Is it a weight-loss treatment?
No. Cryolipolysis targets localised fat. It replaces neither diet nor physical activity.
Is it painful?
The cold is intense for the first minutes, then the area goes numb. The sensation varies from person to person. The final massage can be uncomfortable.
